Pokémon Go recently opened up Gigantamax raiding to the entire community by allowing players to join raids remotely. Prior to this change I was unable to participate in Gigantamax events because it required a significant numbers of local players to meets up and defeat the Pokémon together. With this recent change aligning with the Machamp’s Gigantamax debut and Machop community day I thought it was a good time to dedicate an afternoon to Pokémon Go.

It was a beautiful sunny day and I found myself at a picnic table in the nearby county park under the shade of some trees with multiple active lures. The Machop’s were plentiful, more shiny Pokémon caught than I’d ever need, and in total my wife and I caught 450 Pokémon! With all these candie’s secured it was time for the raid.

I went into dynamax remote raiding with a positive attitude but knowing that I might lose a remote raid pass if I got into the wrong group. Dynamax battle’s are very different than normal raids and I think a large part of the community have very low level dynamax Pokémon. I’m a casual player and I too am still working on building up my Dynamax teams.

While my Pokémon weren’t optimal I still feel like I was going in helping my team and not burdening them. I chose these three Pokémon because the Excadrill and Machamp both have level 3 Max Attacks and my Blissy would be able to use their Spirit move to heal up and support my team. I did have a 2221 Metagross which is an ideal counter but it’s Max Moves weren’t upgraded so I left it on the bench.

Our raid group ended up being 19 people and 4 max mushrooms were used and the raid went extremely well. Everyone in the raid gets divided into teams of four and I ended up being the healer for my group. I stayed on my Blissy the entire time and kept everyone healed up. One of my team members was using guard while the other two were going full damage. In the end I think the raid still had around 35 Pokémon still active when we defeated the Gigantamax Machamp.

I had a lot of fun during this event and was happy to finally catch a Gigantamax. Allowing the player base the opportunity to participate in Gigantamax raiding through remote raid passes is a huge win for the Pokémon Go community and I look forward to future events.
