I wrote an article about a week ago saying that the SNES Classic had sold out just hours after it was available for preorders. It turns out that due to a “glitch in the system” Walmart put the console up for sale. This was not supposed to happen as the console hadn’t even been announced yet. According to people who were able to preorder it they received an e-mail from Walmart saying:
“Thank you for your interest in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Classic Edition. As you are aware, this is a highly sought after console that will launch later this fall. Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the Super Nintendo Classic Edition was mistakenly made available last Friday evening ahead of the official release date. We, regrettably, will have to cancel this item on your order. We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake.”
We can think of this as a “beta test” for how it will go once the SNES Classic actually goes on sale. It’s going to sell out and then it’s going to be sold online for much more than it’s worth. So keep an eye out and preorder it quickly if you want it, it’s you against the world. Good luck!
